Cannabis use should be treated as a public health issue, not a criminal one. That’s why we have an evidence-based plan to legalise, regulate and tax cannabis instead.
For decades, our governments have supported a failed war on drugs. They are trying to police away cannabis use and it just isn’t working. Their policies view the 35% of Australians who have tried cannabis as criminals. And, even worse, these policies make people fear seeking information or help. We deserve better.
Legalising cannabis use and treating it as a health issue is the best way to reduce harm. By doing this, we can regulate and tax it. We can break the business model of criminal gangs. We can save money by not policing cannabis users. And we can use all the funds we raise and save to invest in treatment, mental health, and education programs.
Your vote could make the difference. Macnamara is the Green’s next most winnable seat. And winning Macnamara would mean holding the balance of power. From that position, we can legalise cannabis and start to end the war on drugs.
